Curt Trailer Connector Adapter Installation - 2021 Ford F-150

Hey everyone, how's it going Today we're gonna be going over and showing you how to install the CURT 4 to 7-way with 4-way trailer connector adapter here on a 2021 Ford F-150. So most of your F-150s are gonna come with a factory 7-way and 4-way trailer connector located in the bumper here. But there are some models out there without the factory 4 to 7-ways. They just have the factory 4-way mounted on the hitch here. So if you're one of those people with just the factory 4-way, this kit here is gonna allow you to upgrade to that 7-ways trailer connector. That way you can tow those larger trailers with electric brakes. more

RoadMaster 6-Wire Trailer Connector Installation - 2021 Ford Ranger

Hey everybody, Ryan here at trailer. Today on our 2021 Ford Ranger we're gonna be checking out and showing you how to install the RoadMaster six way round connector plug. So just to kind of give you guys an idea on what your connector plug will look like when you're not using it, whenever you're just kind of cruising around town, you can see it's gonna do a pretty good job of blending in. Thankfully the Ranger has a lot of different spots where we can mount this up and it's kind of dark in this area. So with the plug being black in color it does do a great job just kind of, blending in to the front of your Ranger so it don't stick out too bad. With that said, when you're not using it it does have a spring loaded cap and it's pretty tight actually. more

With it like this it's going to work perfect for our flat towing needs. Now the socket housing itself is made from a zinc die cast metal, which means it's going to hold up really well to the elements and prevent any rust or corrosion. In my opinion too, this being on the front of a truck, it just gives it that more off road rugged look. It has a spring loaded cap. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Adapter Installation - 2011 Ford Van

Today, on our 2011 Ford Van, we're going to be taking a look at the tow-ready four pole to seven pole vehicle end adapter, part number 30717. This is what our adapter looks like fully installed, and as you can see it has a nice cover to keep any dirt and debris or moisture out of the plug. As you can see, back here we have our four pole. We have a white ground wire, and then we have three separate wires that have butt connectors on them. On our application, we're not going to be using them, but the blue wire typically goes to your brake controller, the black wire is going to go to a 12-volt power supply, and the yellow wire typically goes into your reverse light socket. Now, to finish up our installation, to get everything all nice and tucked away, we're going to be using this long no-drill bracket, and you can pick one up using part number 18136, as well as this mounting bracket for a seven-way style plug, and this works with the universal mounting as well as the OEM style, and you can pick one up using part number TM76474. Now, the bracket is going to come with all the mounting hardware. Your seven-way is going to sit in here, and as you can see the oblong holes give you enough room so that they're securely mounted. more

You're going to have a 4-pole flat vehicle end, and the cable is 48" long, as well as you're going to get four wire taps. But on our installation, we're going to be replacing them with heat shrink butt connectors, and you can pick those up using part number DW05744-5. Here's going to be our vehicle end of the 4-pole. Now, like a lot of applications, after time, rust and corrosion will start to build up, and it's not going to make a good connection, so we're going to go and install our new kit. This is what a wire harness looks like when it's installed in a typical application: simple 4-pole flap right here that will work with any small trailer that's out there. This also provides a great base if you want to upgrade this from a 4-pole off to a 6 or 7-pole connector when you use a bigger trailer that requires extra circuits. Let's go ahead and take a quick look at it. Very simple. This is an industry standard 4-pole flap. This is our wires here, 18 gauge material. more

Not too much, it's going to be really just the connector itself, also comes with a packet of grease to protect these connections inside here, and maybe if you've got some little bit left over inside of here. While it's easy to see right now, there's a little rubber gasket in here to help seal it up when it's closed and not being used. Has a pretty good finger hold to pull it off and out of the way to access it. This is the wiring kit also from Hopkins. more

Today in our 2015 Ford Explorer, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Curt Adapter from 4 Pole to 7 Pole and a 4 Pole with Test Lamps, part number C57674. You won't have to use any adapters to go from 7-way to a 4 flat-plug because you have a separate 4 flat to the side. One of the really nice features about this is that it has a built-in test circuit that's going to light up as you go through your features. If your trailer is plugged in and you have a bad circuit or a bad bulb, it's not going to light up that circuit, letting you know you need to check your wiring on your trailer. It's got a nice big plastic cover with a metal bar for hinge, a weather-tight seal. It's going to go around and help seal up your connections and keep moisture and dirt out. It also has a nice weather-tight seal for our 4-flat side. This is what your kit is going to consist of. This is our 7-pole connector and the four-pole flat. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2007 Ford Mustang

Today on our 2007 Ford Mustang, we'll be installing the tow ready upgraded circuit protected modulite with 4 pole harness and hard wire kit part number 119179KIT. We'll begin by opening up the trunk of the vehicle. We'll first need to begin by removing this plastic threshold piece here at the back of the trunk. To do this, we'll unscrew the 2 tabs, 1 on each side and lift the center piece out. Now that we've got the center plastic threshold piece out of the way, it gives us the exposure to both the right and left side wiring harness. To unplug, you may simply push in on the locking tab and gently pull apart. We're going to go ahead and unplug them so we can use our test light and figure out which wire does which function for the lighting. Now that we have our test light grounded to the body of the vehicle, we'll go ahead and have someone run through the light functions. Now you'll notice because of the way the lights are set up on this Mustang that you'll have 2 hot wires or 2 live prongs for each of the light functions. For the running lights here on the driver side, we'll have a blue wire with a yellow stripe as well as a tan wire with a red stripe that are both running light functions. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 1999 Ford F250- Video

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 1999 Ford F250

Today we're going to install the Prodigy brake controller from Tekonsha, Part Number 90185, on a 1999 Ford F-250, the light-duty version. This will also apply to the same year Ford F-150. We're going to start off with this one vehicle that only has a factory 4-pole package on it and does not have the 7-pole in the back. So we're going to have to upgrade the 4-pole to make it a 7-pole and then we can install the brake controller up front. The first thing we do is install one of two brackets on the hitch itself so we have a place to mount our electrical connector, and basically we're going to be using Part Number 18140 from Tow-Ready. And basically this is one that clamps in place right here. Basically it's just a hose clamp that goes around the hitch and back through itself. And then you just tighten it down with a clamp set. You might want to hold the bracket in position while you tighten it down, too. Next we're going to install a bracket by a hole in the connector right here. And this comes with the Part Number 37185, and that's a 4-pole to 7- and 4-pole adapter. more
